In Brisbane we’re lucky to have glorious weather that allows us to enjoy the great outdoors year round. If you’re looking for somewhere to take a walk, have a picnic or doing something a little more active then there is a great range of parks, recreation and sporting facilities just a hop skip or jump away from Serenity.
Local Parks and Playgrounds
There are two good local parks just a short walk from Serenity.
Barbaralla Park on Barbaralla Drive is a great neighbourhood park with a playground, basketball half court, skate facilities, barbeques, picnic area and toilets. A couple of blocks over on Raleigh Street you’ll find Magellan Park, with a small playground, picnic area and barbeques.
Just short drive from Serenity are a couple of fantastic larger parks that are definitely worth a visit.
Springwood Park, Cinderella Drive, Springwood
The lush tropical gardens and manicured lawns make Springwood Park a great picnic location. There’s a well-equipped shaded playground, bike track and picnic area with barbeques.
Underwood Park, Underwood Road, Priestdale
Underwood Park is a massive park that is packed with awesome features including a BMX track, basketball half court, netball courts, bike paths, dog off leash area and one of the best playgrounds in Brisbane – Funderwood Hollow. The park also has barbeques, covered tables, picnic areas, toilets and ample parking.
Conservation Parks and Reserves
Thanks to the planning and conservation efforts of Brisbane City Council and Logan City Council, there are a number of conservation areas across the city that not only provide important havens for native fauna and flora but wonderful spaces to escape city life and spend time in nature.
Springwood Conservation Park, Jardine Drive, Springwood
This pocket of open eucalypt forest is home to koalas, swamp wallabies, water dragons and many species of birds. The network of graded walking tracks makes it easy to navigate the interesting terrain of cliffs, caves and gorge. Walk to the lookout for the spectacular views across Logan. There’s also a playground and picnic area with toilets.
Daisy Hill Conservation Park, Hill Road, Daisy Hill
Daisy Hill Conservation Park is a significant habitat for native wildlife, particularly Koala’s, and is home to the Daisy Hill Koala Centre. The park has a network of shared trails for walking, cycling and horse riding as well as an old quarry to explore. Three separate picnic areas are located on the perimeter of the park.
Karawatha Forest Park, Acacia Road, Karawatha
Karawatha Forest Park is an important wildlife refuge and home to a number of threatened and endangered species. The new Discovery Centre features interactive displays and activities. The Centre opens out onto a picturesque picnic lawn with nature play area, barbeques and toilets. The network of walking tracks allows visitor to explore the remnant bushland.
Recreation and Sporting Facilities
Team and individual sports are a great way to have fun, stay active and meet new people. There are no shortages of sporting clubs close to Serenity.
Logan North Aquatic and Fitness Centre on Sports Drive at Underwood has a range of aquatic and recreation facilities including an indoor heated learn to swim pool, outdoor heated 50m Olympic pool, fitness pool, family leisure pool, barbeques and fully equipped gym / health club.
